The Nerimian Defense Initiative

"Peace Through Overwhelming Strength"

The Nerimian Defense Initiative (hereby referred to as NDI) is the official unified military of the Nerimian Confederation, the most powerful and influential Human governmental body in the Draconis Sector of the Milky Way Galaxy. The NDI is a primarily space-based military force with military bases and outposts scattered within a 350 light-year sphere that is considered to be under the control of the Confederation. While the bulk of its might is focused in its interstellar navy (Spacy), it is a full-spectrum military organization, with ground, aerospace, and even traditional naval assets at its disposal. While orginally configured as a defensive military force, after the War of 2062, the Defense Ministry of the Confederation split the operational forces into three groups: Offensive, Defensive, and Reserve.

The NDI was officially commissioned in the year 2036 by the newly formed Confederate Grand Assembly, which believed that a unified military force would cement the bond between the people of the Confederation. While some initial opposition to this was seen by some of the more independent of the colonies, eventually all Confederation member worlds signed the NDI's charter and pledged a certain percentage of their eligible military forces to fill the rosters of the NDI. One must understand, however, that each planet maintains a very capable militia force (commonly referred to as Regulars) that is responsible for defense of the planet.

Branches of the Nerimian Defense Initiative

NDI Interstellar Navy: The Interstellar Navy (commonly referred to as the Spacy) is the most powerful and influential branch of the NDI's forces. In charge of the mighty war fleets of the Confederation, the Spacy is a highly mobile force that can strike anywhere in the Draconis Sector within one Earth-standard day. In order to strike against enemy planets and installations, the Spacy also includes the Spacy Marine Corps, an elite force of ground troops that specialize in orbital assaults.

NDI Advanced Tactical Assault Corps: The Advanced Tactical Assault Corps (commonly referred to as the ATAC) is a mighty ground force that is used in primarily offensive operations against enemy worlds. It relies primarily on the Spacy for transport into enemy systems, but once on the ground, the ATAC becomes a mighty strike force that can lay waste to any enemy formation before it. Equipped with the most advanced array of weaponry available, all enemies of the Confederation fear its elite ATAC troops.

NDI Tactical Aerospace Force: The Tactical Aerospace Force is a potent air force that is capable of aerospace attack. While some TAF regiments are deployed with ATAC and Marine units, most TAF units are stationed inside the borders of the Confederation to serve defensive roles.

NDI Internal Security Force: The Internal Security Forces are the chief military police and counter-intelligence/espionage units of the NDI. Responsible for policing corruption in the ranks, the ISF is looked upon with a great deal of scrutiny by the other branches because of the extreme political power the ISF wields. As a result, ISF units are always on the move, probing for any sign that dissention and disloyalty in the ranks.

NDI Special Operations Forces: The Special Operations Forces of the NDI are the elite troops of the NDI that perform a wide variety of missions that the Confederation soldiers cannot achieve easily. This includes deep reconnaissance, deep strike missions, espionage, and sabotage operations.
