The NDI Spacy is the Nerimian Defense Initiative's most powerful branch and is considered to be the lifeblood of the entire military. It is a full-spectrum fighting force that can attain and maintain space superiority and bring the fight to the worlds of the enemy with dramatic effect. Over the past few decades, the Spacy has undergone the highest degree of technological development and change, developing more powerful warships to round out its fleets, ballooning to a size of just under a quarter-million vessels.
BASIC ORGANIZATION:
The basic organizational unit of the NDI Spacy is the squadron, which is typically 3-6 warships, depending on size. Destroyer and frigate squadrons can be as large as eight vessels, while cruiser squadrons are typically 2-3. Capital ships, for organizational purposes, are considered a squadron by themselves.
The battle group is three or four squadrons placed together as an operational unit. A unit this large will have a sizable support section -- hospital ships, logistics ships, etc. A battle group is capable of completely independent operation in the field. A battle group is commanded by a Commodore.
The task force is three battle groups or more that are responsible for an entire theater of operations. This unit has a massive support element, usually a full battle group's worth of auxilary vessels. Task forces are commanded by Rear Admirals.
The numbered fleet is the main organizational unit of the Spacy. Consisting of as many as eight naval task forces, the numbered fleet is a massive military force with its own star fortress to serve as a base of operations. Numbered fleets are scattered across a specific sector and operates in its component task forces unless brought together as a massive assault force. Numbered fleets are commanded by Fleet Admirals.
The battle force is multiple numbered fleets brought together as a cohesive military unit. They are only used in times of war. Battle forces are commanded by senior Fleet Admirals.
