BACKGROUND

Developed shortly after the end of the Draconian Civil War (also known as the First Draconian War), the Yamazaki-class battlecruiser was designed to be the hardest-hitting ship on the battlefield outside of a capital vessel, mounting a massive spinal disintegration gun that was at it's time, the largest warship weapon to be developed. The battlecruiser was designed to be the premier front-lilne warship, capable of dealing out a tremendous amount of destructive power while simultaneously absorbing punishment that would cripple lesser vessels. The Yamazaki is by far the most heavily armored non-capital ship the Confederation has at it's disposal, being the first vessel to use the revolutionary Xintium armor. Simply put, short of a Stellar Converter or Disintegration Gun blast, the Yamazaki has been known to shrug off the most ferocious of enemy assaults and none of these vessels has ever been lost to enemy action.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

  1. DISINTEGRATION GUN: The primary weapon of the Yamazaki-class battlecruiser is a ultra-heavy spinal positron cannon that ship commanders have dubbed the disintegration gun because of its devastating effects on enemy fleet formations. Using the by-product of the Quantum-Gravitic reactors of the vessel to supply tremendous amounts of anti-matter, the D-Gun excites the anti-matter into a state of plasma, ejecting it in a massive wave anti-plasma and energy that can clear an entire 45-degree arc in front of the vessel with its destructive power. The amount of energy released by the D-Gun has been estimated to be 3E14 megatons of raw destructive power, which is directed along a path of pure destruction.
    • Primary Purpose: Anti-Warship/Anti-Planet
    • Range: 1 AU (93,000,000 miles)
    • Damage: Destroys anything and everything in a 50,000 mile path. Vessels just outside of this radius will be destroyed by the leakage of the beam.
    • Rate of Fire: At any given time, the vessel can fire a D-Gun blast due to the amount of anti-plasma already in the D-Gun's capacitors. However, to rebuild the amount of anti-plasma from the quantum-gravitic reactors takes approximately seven minutes.
    • Payload: Effectively Unlimited. Will function so long as the quantum-gravitic reactors are operational.
  2. MAULER DEVICE (60): The Energy Wave Projection Cannon is the premier anti-warship weapon of the Nerimian Defense Initiative and Hushain Empires. Based loosely off hyperspace tap technology, the weapon is capable of generating incredible amounts of destructive energy and releasing it as a destructive blast that has been known to completely vaporize enemy vessels. The low-end of the weapon's power is measured in the mid-gigaton ranges (50-75 gigatons of destructive power) and it's high-end output generates in excess of 525 gigatons of power at peak levels.

  3. TRI-FOCUS PLASMA CANNONS (148):The tri-focus plasma cannon is a secondary anti-warship beam weapon that combines the power of three standard plasma cannons into one devastating bolt of plasma energy that is completely devastating to enemy warships. Being composed of supercharged ions heated to extreme temperatures, the plasma blast is naturally shield-piercing, allowing it to perform admirably against a myriad of enemy deflector shield systems. The low-end estimate of the tri-focus plasma cannon's destructive power has been measured as the equivalent of a 25 gigaton fusion weapon. High-end estimates have been placed in the 55-60 gigaton range.

  4. PHOENIX GATLING PHASOR CANNONS (240): The Gatling phasor is the latest development of the NDI's patented phasor technology. A phasor is essentially a powerful beam cannon that utilizes a flux capacitor that not only can change the frequency of the energy blast, but can also phase the energy so it can exist in multiple dimensions simultaneously -- which makes it capable of totally bypassing enemy shielding systems and applying their damage immediately to the enemy hull. The low-end estimate of the gatling phasor's destructive power has been measured as the equivalent of a 535 megaton fusion weapon. High-end estimates have been placed in the 744-780 megaton range.

  5. ANTI-WARSHIP MISSILE BATTERIES (24): The Yamazaki is capable of launching missiles with ranges in excess of 1 astronomical unit (93 million miles), these weapons can be volleyed at ranges far beyond the guns of most enemy vessels.
    • PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
    • SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-Warship (Mecha Planetary Assault)
    • RANGE: 1 AU delta-v
    • RATE OF FIRE: The rapid reload system used on the missile launchers allows each tube to be loaded and fired once per minute. The launchers can fire both missiles and VF Assault Rockets at this rapid rate.
    • PAYLOAD: A typical guided missile frigate will carry 180 missiles in its ready magazines with an additional 90 in its storage magazines.
  6. SA-4 SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE LAUNCHERS (24): The Yamazaki's prime anti-missile and anti-mecha capability comes from its 40 SA-4 missile launchers that can unleash the deadly "ThunderBolt" missile upon enemy missiles and mecha with pin-point accuracy. The SAMs can rotate a full 360 degrees to fire upon any vector necessary.

    • MISSILE TYPES: Phoenix Arms SA-4 A, B, C, D, E Surface-to-Air Cluster Missile
    • RANGE: 10,000 km delta-v
    • RATE OF FIRE: Volleys of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 12 missiles per launcher.
    • PAYLOAD: Each launcher holds 12 missiles. Once the missiles are expended the launcher is reloaded within 1 round via an automated system. The reload system holds 96 missiles per launcher.
  7. PHOENIX ARMS TRC-1000 PULSE CANNONS (720): For last-ditch point defense, the cruiser mounts fast tracking pulse cannon turrets that fire phased energy blasts at an extremely high rate of fire that are effective against all manners of mecha, missile, and other assorted targets. These weapons, however, are not effective against larger targets as they simply lack the sufficient power to deal damage. Low-end estimates for the TRC-1000 pulse cannon's destructive power has been calculated in the 700 gigawatt range. High-end estimates have been placed in the 105-130 terawatt range.

SYSTEMS OF NOTE:

  • ADVANCED DAMAGE CONTROL: As ships of war, the NDI Spacy's warships are designed to maximize their offensive capability while using their defenses to defeat enemy offensive power. However, damage is inevitable, and the only way to prevent massive ship losses to consecutive enemy attacks is to have adequate damage control systems. Unlike previous versions of damage control, where men and women had to go to the site to repair critical damage, Adv. Damage Control systems use automated nanolathing units to patch up holes in the hull and repair vital systems during the heat of battle.
  • ARMOR: The armor of NDI Spacy vessels is standard Xintium/Crystalline armor mesh, capable of deflecting/reflecting over 80% of all energy directed at the ship's hull. For added protection, this armor is placed in multiple layers to defend against extreme kinetic impacts. The undermost layer of armor is several inches of enriched neutronium interweaved with mercurite fibers to provide a solid foundation. Over this layer of armor is a layer of xentronium that is extremely adept at cushioning concussive impacts. The outermost layer of armor is the Xintium/Crystalline armor mesh, which is applied in a honeycombed fashion to further deflect energy away from the hull. Xintium's unique molecular properties allow it to regenerate its molecular bonds over time, which makes the Xintium extremely durable.
  • DAMPER FIELD GENERATOR: A by-product of antigravity (repulsor) technology, the damper field has been heralded as the best defense against scalar electrogravitational pulse weaponry, which are notorious for their ability to destroy ammunition, electronics, and organic life forms. While scalar EM waves penetrate conventional shielding because they can travel wherever gravity can go, the damper field uses a low-power antigravity field that negates the force of gravity and consequently provides an effective shielding system against scalar EM weapons systems.
  • HARD SHIELDS: Hard Shields are reinforced against the ravages of many forms of incidental radiation. Hard shields are distortion shields that warp and bend enemy attacks away from the vessel. The distortion field also prevents teleportation across the barrier it creates, so when the shield is in operation, transphased and other similar weapons are rendered inert. The hard shields when coupled with the zyro shields are often layered together in an array that dissipates and distorts enemy beam weapon attacks to the point that only minute levels radiation will ever reach the outermost layer of armor.
  • HIGH ENERGY FOCUS: The High Energy Focus is an Argus Millitech development that increases the effective bandwidth of energy the ship's weapons can draw from the main hyperspace tap generators. With this modification, the standard output of all the ship's energy weapons is effectively doubled because more energy can be directed from the reactor to the weapons system.
  • HYPERPULSE DRIVE: Genesis Propulsion Systems/Argus Millitech Kalmedia Type A Hyperpulse Drive is a relatively new addition to the Draconian Alliance's warships. Using layered asymmetrical warp fields that can envelop the entire vessel, the ship can move at superluminal velocities during combat. While nowhere near as fast as the interphased drives that allows ships to move from planet to planet, it allows for extremely rapid travel during combat.
  • HYPERSPACE COMMUNICATIONS: Based on the same technology as the space fold system, the hyperspace communications relay allows near real-time communication between NDI Spacy starships and other vessels or planetary bases. As with all NDI communications, the hyperspace communications array utilizes a proprietary set of signals that changes periodically, allowing secure communications between NDI warships without the fear of enemy interception.
  • INTERDICTION FIELD: The ship is capable of projecting a powerful artificial gravitic field that disrupts the operations of FTL drives of all types in a specific area of effect (minimal effective AOE is a 1,000 meter cubic area; maximum AOE is 1 AU cubic area). This is useful in preventing enemy vessels from escaping from battle. The interdiction field also has a secondary mode that can defeat the interdiction efforts of enemy forces, though its effective AOE is halved.
  • LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS: The cruisers have sufficient life support to provide breathable air and comfortable temperatures for 2,500 for up to 15 years (air is recycled). In an emergency evacuation situation, the system can support up to 150,000 supernumeraries for a limited period of time, though living conditions will get extremely cramped at that point. The cruiser also holds sufficient food and water to support 2,500 people for up to 2 years.
  • LIGHTNING SHIELD: The Lightning Shield was a powerful ionized energy field that is useful against any penetrating target. The intense plasma heating will fuse and even vaporize metallic bodies. In addition, any missile encountering the shell is subjected to an extremely intense EMP arising everywhere inside its circuitry. EM shielding is of no use against the creation of energy throughout the space time of the circuits; such shielding only helps against energy flow through space in the conventional sense. Thus, the electronics of any mecha or missile encountering the shield are instantly dudded, whether or not they are shielded against ordinary electromagnetic interference (EMI). Furthermore, explosive materials are exploded when such interference is encountered, and combustible materials are fiercely consumed or set afire. Ablative shielding suffers an interesting catastrophe: since energy does not try to flow into the shielding, but instead arises everywhere in it simultaneously, 'ablation' occurs everywhere throughout the ablative material, simply exploding it instantly. The first layer of defense can be relied upon to take out nearly 100% of all enemy missiles that have not been modified in someway to 'penetrate the envelope' (energy sheathing, phase-shifting methods seem to be most effective).
  • NEUTRON STREAM PROJECTORS: Neutron Stream Projectors are a wide area effect weapons that fire a highly volatile blast of neutrinos that have a catastrophic effect on armor of all types. Stream projectors can easily bypass deflector shields and apply their damage directly to armor. The stream projectors have no effect on internal equipment but have been known to reduce even the strongest of armor materials to brittle husks after repeated attacks.
  • ORACLE INTERFACE GS MARK VI: The Oracle Interface GS Mark VI combat computer system is perhaps the most ground-breaking computer system ever employed by the Nerimian Defense Initiative. As one of the first true quantum computer systems, the computer stores information in the form of arrays of forced quantum electron states inside custom-built sub-atomic molecules. Thanks to the nature of quantum interactions, even the most complex processing task is almost instantaneous. This allows the computer to take full advantage of the SCRIBOL programming language and gives the vessel full access to the SLICS information network. Other components of this elaborate combat system include:
    • Dauntless Guidance System: The Dauntless Guidance system is a system that provides in-flight friend-or-foe recognition for projectile (missile and torpedo) weapons. If a weapon's target is destroyed before impact, that weapon automatically scans and acquires the nearest enemy ship as its new target.
    • DeadEye Optical Tracking System: Ultra-high resolution high-sensitivity optical sensor clusters.
    • Rangemaster Targeting Unit: The Rangemaster Targeting Unit corrects for long-range targeting inaccuracies in beam weapons, reducing the absolute range to one-third of the actual range.
    • Neutron Scanners: Neutron scanners analyze disturbances in the galaxy's background neutrino radiation caused by the passage of ships traveling through space.
    • Tachyon Scanners: Tachyon Scanners detect the disturbances in the gravitic characteristics of normal space caused by the passage of ships traveling through hyperspace. Tachyon scanners also reduce the effectiveness of enemy missile jamming systems.
    • GH-50c WydeSCAN XII Hyperwave Radar: Hyperwave radars are highly-advanced interphased very-long range arrays that send out multiple interphased beams across the entire EM spectrum that allow the computer to create high-resolution sensor images for differential of a wide variety of targets. The WydeSCAN XII's passive modes allow it to read radiation along the whole EM spectrum and compare it with its other sensor systems.
    • Zero-Point Field Radar: The ZPF Radar is a passive sensor system that reads disturbances in the zero-point energy field in space. The GS VI's high-powered processor is capable of differentiating between objects such as asteroids and other stellar objects and warships.
    • Wide Area ECM Jammer: The Wide Area Jammer generates a broad spectrum magnetic pulse that jams weapons targeting and tracking systems and missile guidance units. The effects cross the entire spectrum and spread out of in a sphere.
    • Subspace Mass Sensors: Subspace mass sensors instantly detect mass readings and movement of objects up to 1 AU (93 million miles) distant from the ship. The readings are used both for early warning and navigation when traveling at sublight speeds. The readings are not very detailed and cannot detect objects of less than 60,000 kg.
  • RADIATION SHIELDS: The cruisers are equipped with a Mercurite shielding system, which is capable of blocking most forms of electromagnetic radiation. This is useful for blocking electromagnetic pulse-type weapons.
  • REFLECTION FIELD: The Reflection Field is a secondary development of repulsion beam technology, which used controlled gravitic waves to push objects away. When this technology was modified slightly to produce a spherical field instead of a focused beam, it was found that multiple arrays generating enough artificial gravitic waves could surround a starship with a near-impregnable shield that repelled enemy attacks away from the hull.
  • SHIELD CAPACITOR: The cruiser's fast-charging shield capacitors allow the Zyro Shields to fully recharge to full power every 30 seconds instead of the standard 90 seconds.
  • SPACE FOLD SYSTEM: For FTL propulsion, the ship is equipped with two Genesis Propulsion Systems Nishida Inter-Phased Hyperspace Drives capable of propelling the escort through hyperspace at speeds up to fifty million times the speed of light. The result fold bubble can transport any ship within 1,000 miles of the ship, which allows the ship to carry friendly vessels with it as it travels.
  • SPATIAL COMPRESSOR: By causing a subspace ripple to rush out from its hull, the warship causes an instantaneous distortion of subspace around the ship.
  • SUBLIGHT ENGINES: The ship is equipped with multiple gravimetric drives that manipulate superstrings and the zero-point field to maneuver and accelerate to a far higher degree than other ships. By manipulating and "bending" superstrings, Draconian Alliance ships are able to create distortions in space/time that can be used to push and pull a ship in any given direction. An important byproduct of this means of propulsion is that the effect of inertia is also negated, allowing ships to accelerate, stop and maneuver at velocities that would crush a person using conventional ion propulsion.
  • TIME/SPACE ANCHOR: The Time/Space Anchor is a device constructed from psychoactive that firmly anchors whatever it is attached to firmly in the time/space continuum, rendering attacks that use dimensional and planar warping capability to deal their damage ineffective. The anchor must be turned off before a warship can execute a hyperspace fold, however.
  • ZYRO SHIELDS: The Zyro Shield is a energy/ray shielding system that generates incredible amounts of energy to generate a force field system that can absorb and disperse the tremendous impacts from enemy beam weapons. To better defend against enemy attacks, the shields can be fluxed in such a way that they can regulate what wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation reach the hull. Zyro shields are very effective against conventional beam weaponry and can be relied upon to resist the equivalent of roughly 50 teratons per square centimeter.
